Ground Ball Relay Races
Players want to keep their sticks open to the front and present them to the passer. The beginner players can catch the ball down low to start and get the feel for the soft landing of the ball in their stick. As they progress, reinforce the players catching the ball up by their shoulder and giving back.
Players bring their stick to “triple threat” position (Top elbow and shoulder are at 90 degrees. The bottom of the stick (butt of stick) is pointing to where you want the ball to go.) They then proceed to pull with the bottom hand and push with their top hand for the follow through. Focus on the butt of the stick coming across the body and the head of the stick stopping where they want the ball to go. *Note, the women’s sticks all release at different points depending on the make of them. Each player will have to find the spot that their stick stops in the air in order to complete an accurate pass. However, the basic technique of the throw does not change.*
